M2M Sim cards

If you’re looking for M2M sim cards, you’ve come to the right place. We can help you find the right Sim cards for your solution. After all, every IoT (internet of things) solution these days is completely different to the last.

From those needing rafts and rafts of data right through to a fixed IP Sim as part of a wider APN network. We have the right partner for you.

What is an M2M Sim card?

An M2M sim card allows data to be sent from one device to another. M2M stands for Machine to Machine, examples of this are your wireless thermostat (think Hive) right through to a skip that can alert the skip company it is full and needs emptying.

There are so many applications for M2M sim cards throughout the world in this day and age. It is therefore imperative that if you are going to use data Sims you need to make sure you choose the most reliable connectivity you can get.

M2M sim card vs standard sim card - what's the difference?

The main difference between them is reliability. When working with critical applications it’s generally better to use the M2M sims due to the additional resilience which is built around the product.

A network operator that supplies data sims will allow for certain features to help the data run through the network smoother and more reliably than a standard sim card. In a similar way that business mobiles are a prioritised service versus a consumer sim card.

M2M sims are used primarily to send data over the network and not for voice and SMS texts. Depending on the tariff, you’ll be able to access the different data channels such as GPRS, 2G, 3G, 4G and soon to be 5G.

In the same way you build a Virtual Private Network (VPN) on computers you can set-up a private APN (access point name). This is great when you think of mission critical applications such as Police devices, drones to protect from attack etc.

UK M2M sim providers - Which are the best ones?

The main networks in the UK are the main 4; Vodafone, EE, O2 and Three. All of these networks operate their own cells and should be able to better guarantee data across them and a consistent service.

Roaming M2M sim cards, these can provide you with a great solution if you need to be able to get the best signal no matter where you are.

If you’re just using the data sim in a single fixed location then you need to just work out the best signal in that location and then use that network. If on the other hand you have a requirement to keep moving around the country then a roaming sim could be the right solution for you.

A great example of where a roaming data sim would be the only solution would be a market trader using a merchant card machine but at different pop-up markets around the UK or even abroad.
